American Kennel club (akc) classes
We are honored to be one of the only a couple of trainers in our area to be approved by the American Kennel Club (AKC) to teach their classes and help students get their certifications. Our most popular classes are the Canine Good Citizen (CGC) and the Community Canine Certification (CGC-A) classes. Read below a short description and tap on the links to learn more directly from the AKC's website.
AKC STAR Puppy certificate
Start at the beginning, the AKC STAR Puppy program covers all the basic commands that you want your puppy to learn and we do too. At the end of a class series, you and your pup will take a test of exercises and you can receive your first official AKC Ceritifcation. Leanr more at AKC STAR Puppy page at the AKC website.
AKC Canine Good Citizen(CGC) certificate
We think this is one of the AKC's most popular certificate, the AKC's Canine Good Citizen (CGC) certifcate.
Did you already graduate from a basic obedience class and want to learn more?
Did you self-teach your dog and want to see how well you did? Interested in doing “therapy dog” visitations at a school or hospital or assisted living home? Having troubles with your home owner’s insurance company because you have a certain breed of dog?
We will meet at our studio and around town at public venues.
what is the canine good citizen (CGC) certification?
The CGC program is for people who want to continue to learn at higher obedience levels with their dog but don’t want to get into serious competition or shows or trials. It is run by the American Kennel Club (AKC) and is administered by approved trainers like Pat Mitchell and Super Dooper Dog Training®, LLC.
Only a privileged few trainers can offer the CGC program because of the rigid requirements and level of experience required by the AKC. Pat Mitchell is one of the elite trainers approved by the AKC to teach and test dogs and handlers for their CGC certification.
why do akc cgc program?
There are many reasons why you may want to do the AKC CGC program. It’s fun, it’s challenging, it may help with Home Owner’s insurance issues for people with certain breed dogs (check with your insurance provider), hotels honor the certificate and it is usually a pre-requisite by “therapy dog” organizations.
there's an actual test?
Yep, there is a test which is 10 good manners exercises and you have to pass all 10 of them. But don't panic... we get you ready for success in every one of them.
AKC COMMUNITY CANINE (CGCA) certificate
The AKC Community Canine (CGCA) class extends the skills learned in the AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC) class out and into the community. The handler and dog’s skills are tested in a natural public setting; not in a quiet cozy training studio.

CAN I GET THE REQUIRED AKC NUMBER IF MY DOG IS A MIXED BREED OR DOESN'T HAVE A NUMBER?
Absolutely, you’ll apply during the class for either an AKC PALs or Canine Partners number which are for mixed breeds and breeds presently not recognized by the AKC.
WHY GO FOR THE AKC CGCA TITLE?
- It’s fun training with your dog.
- We practice at our studio and parks, shopping centers and other public venues.
- It’s a great warm-up for Therapy Dog training though its not a requirement to take our Therapy Dog training class or a requirement from the Therapy Dog groups in our area.
- Your dog is eligible to receive an official AKC title!
IS THERE AN ACTUAL CGCA TEST?
Yes, but don’t panic! We practice with you and your dog so that when you are ready to take the test, which is usually on lesson six, it will be easier for you and your dog to pass. It’s a more challenging version of the AKC CGC test.
What's the cost of our AKC classes?
